"Safely Deploying the World’s First Fully Autonomous Commercial Ride hail Service: Waymo Safety Assurance research"
Trent Victor
Director of Safety Research and Best Practices
Waymo
Over the course of the past years, the industry, academia, government, and other relevant institutions have come to the unanimous consensus that safety is of utmost priority when it comes to deploying autonomous vehicles on public roads. Another commonly accepted conclusion is that safety cannot be achieved by a “single silver bullet” solution. Ensuring the safety of autonomous vehicles is a multi-domain activity, where each domain must follow its best practices and standards to ensure the required levels of safety. In this panel, we will investigate how the safety of autonomous vehicles is ensured right from the very beginning of the development process, namely when building the architecture system responsible for the automated driving functionality.
Speakers:
Simon Segars, CEO, Arm
Stefan Poledna, CTO, TTTech Auto

Technology innovation is happening all over the world, startups are trying to disrupt, traditional companies are struggling to keep up. An international view of how the industry dealt with a global pandemic, key learnings and opportunities for collaboration.
Air taxis, Hyperloop, self-driving cars, autonomous planes – what does the mobility of tomorrow look like? The industry's next objective is to focus on moving a person through multiple modes of connected travel. Skepticism persists and uncertainty abounds. However, different cities and states are already experimenting with faster, safer, greener and more convenient transportation for citizens.
In this panel, we will take a look into the future of autonomous mobility and we will try to imagine how people and goods will actually move in the future, and what types of vehicles, technologies, data, services and capabilities are needed to make that movement possible.
Speakers:
Laura Major, CTO, Motional
Josh Giegel, CEO and Co-Founder, Virgin Hyperloop

Following the law on level 3 automated driving in 2017, this year, Germany took a pioneering role and broke new ground with the recent introduction of a new law on autonomous driving that intends to bring “autonomous vehicles” at SAE Level 4 into regular operation as soon as 2022. By this legislative move, Germany is the first country in the world to allow driverless cars on the roads in defined operating areas (corresponding to the “operational design domain” or “ODD”).
This workshop will cover the various opportunities and challenges that come with the new regulation, but also the next steps that are still needed for a harmonizing international and European legal framework.
